Job Description
At Custom Briefings, our Editors work overnight to produce daily email news briefings for professional and trade associations in medicine, business, law, education and other fields. Our clients rely on our briefings for insights that drive their members’ strategies and practices.
We seek high-energy top performers who enjoy a challenging and stimulating publishing environment. Candidates must be analytical, self-motivated, detail-oriented and accustomed to producing a high standard of quality. They must also have demonstrated the ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure. Due to our early morning publishing deadlines, the ability to work night hours is required.
Responsibilities
- Conduct background research to develop an in-depth understanding of a professional audience and its interests
- Use a combination of Internet search engines and our web search tool to survey daily news developments and trends in specific industries
- Identify the industry’s most important news and summarize articles in a clear, concise, and accurate manner
- Write multiple briefings, maintaining our standards of relevance, objectivity, and fairness
- Edit multiple briefings for accuracy and adherence to our style
- Work with email operations team to publish final briefing and send to client daily
Job Requirements
- BA/BS or higher degree in an analytical, research- and writing-intensive field (e.g., law, journalism, science)
- Highly inquisitive and adept at using search tools and electronic databases; able to digest a substantial flow of information and synthesize it into an insightful, executive-level synopsis
- Demonstrated ability to write concisely and accurately under tight deadlines
- Sound news judgment and prior professional experience in researching and writing for a sophisticated audience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proven track record of working collaboratively to meet business objectives
- Technological proficiency required
- Ability to work overnight hours; our editors typically start between 10 p.m. - 11 p.m.

Responsibilities
- Contacting and meeting with high level decision makers
- Engaging in a consultative sales to understand and capitalize on unique client needs

Job Requirements
- 7+ years of media sales experience
- 5+ years of dot.com sales experience (medical, high net-worth consumer and business media preferred)
- Proven track record of meeting and exceeding aggressive revenue targets
- Experience with both agency and client-direct sales
- Aggressive, results-driven orientation
- Excellent attention to detail coupled with the ability to structure and close a sale
- Independent self-starter who doesn't want to be micromanaged
- Uncompromised integrity and business ethics
- BA or BS degree required; MBAs also welcome!
